چکیده

Methods Seventeen postoperative neurosurgical patients without pulmonary disease volunteered to participate in the study and were randomly ventilated in PS (n = 8) or VC (n = 9) with constant inspiratory flow. Diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid labelled with technetium-99 m (2 mCi/3 mL) was administered using a vibrating-mesh nebulizer (Aerogen Solo, Aerogen Ltd., Galway, Ireland) connected to the endotracheal tube. Pulmonary and extrapulmonary particles deposition was analyzed by planar scintigraphy.

Aerosol delivery with two ventilation modes during mechanical ventilation: a randomized study

BACKGROUND Volume-controlled ventilation has been suggested to optimize lung deposition during nebulization although promoting spontaneous ventilation is targeted to avoid ventilator-induced diaphragmatic dysfunction. Comparing topographic aerosol lung deposition during volume-controlled ventilation and spontaneous ventilation in pressure support has never been performed. The aim of this study ...

Pulmonary deposition of a nebulised aerosol during mechanical ventilation.

BACKGROUND There is increasing use of therapeutic aerosols in patients undergoing mechanical ventilation. Few studies have measured aerosol delivery to the lungs under these conditions with adequate experimental methods. Hence this study was performed to measure pulmonary aerosol deposition and to determine the reproducibility of the method of measurement during mechanical ventilation. METHOD...

Rate of Self-Extubation in Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Following Administration of Fentanyl, Midazolam and Midazolam-Fentanyl Combination: A Comparative Study

Background Self-extubation is a problem in pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) and can be harmful for children. Level of sedation is a determining factor for self-extubation. The aim of this study was to compare thr rate of self-extubation and duration of ventilation following different sedative modalities. Materials and Methods This prospective and randomized study was done in Mofid Children ...

Improving aerosol drug delivery during invasive mechanical ventilation with redesigned components.

INTRODUCTION Patients receiving invasive mechanical ventilation with an endotracheal tube (ETT) can often benefit from pharmaceutical aerosols; however, drug delivery through the ventilator circuit is known to be very inefficient. The objective of this study was to improve the delivery of aerosol through an invasive mechanical ventilation system by redesigning circuit components using a streaml...

New modalities for non-invasive positive pressure ventilation: A review article

Efficiency of non-invasive positive pressure ventilation in the treatment of respiratory failure has been shown in many published studies. In this review article, we introduced new modalities of non-invasive ventilation (NIV), clinical settings in which NIV can be used and a practical summary of the latest official guidelines published by the European Respiratory Clinical Practice. Clinical tri...
